TAISM students proudly present the literary magazine entitled Lifelines Volume 5: Fioritura. Eleven high students met once per week this school year to plan, organize and review submissions. They decided on the theme "fioritura" because we are living in times of shedding the old to bring in the new as we blossom into spring time. The Oman Ministry of Education has announced that all schools in the Sultanate will be closed as of tomorrow, March 15, for one month because of health and safety concerns related to the spread of COVID-19.  TAISM will begin schooling through its Virtual Learning program on Monday, March 16 (day 4). Regular attendance online by students is required as these are considered school days. An incredible SAISA weekend is behind us. Congratulations to all athletes on competing hard while also showing a great level of sportsmanship, collaboration and camaraderie. TAISM belongs to the Near East South Asia region of schools, which is a non-profit association of more than 100 private, independent American/international schools serving students and their families in North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. Last weekend, TAISM hosted the NESA Winter Training Institute, a professional learning opportunity for teachers from NESA schools. The thirteenth Muscat Terry Fox Run was held on the sports field of the American School in Ghala last Thursday. Its aim of raising awareness and money towards cancer research, in honour of Terry’s dream to end the pain of cancer, has had a huge impact on survival rates in the Sultanate over the years. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) opening its doors to students in the Sultanate of Oman, a song was commissioned with composer Kyle Pederson which premiered at the 16th annual TAISM Festival of Choirs. Entitled Hands Are Knocking,  the song was born on the Bosch Center for the Performing Arts stage with a  150-voice chorus of over 40 nationalities in the spring of 2018. Last weekend around forty brass students from three international schools in the capital attended a Big Brass weekend at The American School to develop their instrumental skills. The budding wind players were taught by twelve of Muscat’s best brass players and teachers in a series of intensive workshops over two days.
