We are proud of each of the forty-eight students in TAISM’s Class of 2019 who received their High School diploma this year. May is World Down Syndrome Awareness month, and here in Oman there is a need for national awareness as a surprising one in 400 babies are born with the condition. The international average is one in a thousand live births. The prevalence of Down Syndrome in the Sultanate has received increasing publicity in recent years, with articles about successful entrepreneurs, horse riding outings, activity days and art competitions for youngsters living with Down’s Syndrome. TAISM students got to work with the environmentalist Harald Reichenbach as part of our many activities on Earth Day. They collected garbage and pressed it into sculptures called G-Cubes. TAISM hosted John Coy as an author visit for the elementary students. Our EC to grade three students came to the library on Monday to meet with an author who has published 17 books and is working on 6 more. Mr. Coy presented to students the steps and challenges to becoming a published author using examples from his first book Night Driving. Earth Day is an annual event celebrated globally on April 22 to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment. Earth Day Network, the organisation that leads Earth Day worldwide, has chosen the theme of “End Plastic Pollution”. TAISM students participate in the Oman Earth Day Challenge 2019 with other schools in Muscat. TAISM Eagles participated in SAISA Season 3 Tournament in India. The girls soccer and boys basketball teams played hard in Bombay, while the track & field team competed in Chennai.  Congratulations to the girls soccer team on winning the SAISA tournament for the third time in a row! This weekend, 90 girls and 43 boys from fourteen schools representing 43 nationalities descended on Muscat for two days of vocal rehearsals at the American International School Muscat. Founded in March 2004, ‘Festival of Choirs’ is now in its 16th year, the vision of TAISM’s Choral Music Teacher, Melanie Brink, and Director, Kevin Schafer. Saturday’s matinée programme by Muscat Singers and Muscat Brass, “Reverie”, was a concert of two halves. The magnificent Bosch Centre for Performing Arts in Ghala hosted a vocal performance with guests in part one, while Muscat Brass provided a sterling and robust second half of purely instrumental sounds.
