Many Earth Day Activities at TAISM

Monday, April 22, 2019

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated globally on April 22 to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment. Earth Day Network, the organisation that leads Earth Day worldwide, has chosen the theme of “End Plastic Pollution”.

TAISM students participate in the Oman Earth Day Challenge 2019 with other schools in Muscat. The middle schoolers created a video to share information about the challenge and how individual students can make a difference.

High schoolers painted sea animals on old plastic containers as part of an art project to raise awareness of plastic waste in our waters. They also hosted an earth day neighbourhood clean up.

Our elementary students participated in the Earth Day Art Show organised by the U.S. Embassy in Muscat. Students created art from recycled materials following the theme “Saving Endangered Species”. Their work was displayed at the Embassy on April 22. Grade 4 students worked with a guest environmentalist in the school's garden, turning garbage into G-Cubes (trash is compressed into art and becomes a sculpture). First graders made solar ovens with their fourth grade buddies and used them to make pizzas. They also made Earth day promises.

In addition to educating, engaging and supporting our students in environmental activities, TAISM aspires to be earth-conscious in day-to-day operations as well. Below are some examples of what our school is doing for the Earth.
