Early Childhood

Academics

At TAISM, we start our youngest students’ learning with classes that foster the development of cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills through collaboration, inquiry, and play. Your child will begin their journey in a caring and safe environment that lays the foundation for an American-based international education and welcomes parent involvement.

Interactive Learning Standards

Our curriculum for your Early Childhood student supports their development by using interactive learning. This framework is learner-centric, so your child’s interests and needs are incorporated into their daily learning activities.

  • Standards and Curriculum: Our curriculum cultivates your child’s intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development using a variety of instructional approaches to help your child construct their foundational learning in meaningful ways. Through activities that encourage active participation, inquiry, and relationship building, your child will learn the literacy, numeracy, and fundamental skills they need for success in elementary school and beyond.

  • Instructional Practice: We know each child is capable of learning when they are developmentally ready, and that’s why our teachers embrace the need to understand each child’s needs and interests. Teachers focus and build upon a child's strengths and provide ample opportunities for them to demonstrate their learning in a variety of contexts. Our consistent classroom routines help children learn our expectations and how to respect themselves and others.

  • Reporting Student Progress: You will receive three progress reports throughout the year that show how your child is progressing through our standards-based curriculum. Additionally, teachers will keep you informed about your child's next steps. Our teachers value our parent partnerships and are available to meet with you to discuss any of your questions or concerns.

  • Collaborative Culture: A collaborative culture is a large part of what makes TAISM’s Early Childhood program a success. All of our teachers meet regularly to discuss units of study. Teachers participate in professional learning opportunities throughout the year. We also work closely with parents to ensure their child’s evolving educational, social, and emotional needs are met.

Emergent Curriculum

Our Early Childhood programs use an emergent curriculum, which is a philosophy that focuses on being responsive to student interests as learning milestones are met. This prioritizes participation and collaboration to create a “learn by doing” approach, relationship building to develop social skills, and open inquiry. Teachers observe and remain flexible as they adjust plans to student interests and encourage independent learning and problem-solving skills as students move through learning centers in the classroom or in our outdoor learning environment.

Early Childhood Specials

From an early age, TAISM begins to include a variety of learning experiences within the curriculum. Every child visits the library weekly to have story time and to choose a book to share with their family. Music and Art are embedded into the daily routine and starting in EC2 these are further enhanced through lessons with specialist teachers.

Each week, our school counselor visits the class to teach social-emotional lessons in a fun way. Physical education is highly valued at TAISM. Students enjoy outdoor play, visits to the gym, and opportunities to swim in the pool.
