TAISM's Terry Fox Legacy Fuels Landmark Omani Breast Cancer Research

October is Pink October, a time when the world unites to raise awareness and fund research for breast cancer. At TAISM, this commitment is rooted in the enduring spirit of courage and hope inspired by the annual Terry Fox Run.
We are proud to celebrate the recent publication of a landmark pilot study by Dr. Sirin Adham, Associate Professor at Sultan Qaboos University. Her article, “Genomic landscape of cancer driver genes in Omani breast cancers: a pilot study,” published in the prestigious Breast Cancer Research journal, represents a monumental leap for local research. Dr. Sirin’s team has provided critical insights into the unique genetic landscape of Omani breast cancers—information that will benefit researchers in Oman and beyond for years to come.
In her note of gratitude, Dr. Sirin specifically acknowledged TAISM’s long-standing support and the crucial funding secured through our annual Terry Fox Run. Her team’s breakthrough is a direct example of the impact the TAISM community has on the future of healthcare in Oman.
For 18 years, the TAISM community has proudly laced up its shoes, embodying Terry’s relentless pursuit of a cure. Over that time, our collective efforts have raised 64,152 OMR to support cancer research in Oman. While the early years focused on children’s leukemia, since 2020–2021 our contributions have supported breast cancer research, including this landmark study.
The legacy continues! Mark your calendars for the next opportunity to run, donate, and make a difference. Join us for the annual Terry Fox Run this December—your support translates directly into hope and better options for patients and families.
