TAISM Launches Life-Centered Education Program to Support Diverse Learners

Press Release:
The American International School of Muscat Launches a Life-Centered Education Program to Support Diverse Learners
Muscat, October 29, 2024 – The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) is proud to announce the launch of the Life-Centered Education (LCE) program, a specialized initiative within the Elementary School designed to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This program reflects TAISM’s commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment where each student’s unique potential can flourish in pursuit of a better world.
The development of this program is grounded in TAISM’s mission and core belief that all students should be enabled to fully develop their academic, emotional, social, and physical potential. The Learning Support department collaborates with teachers to identify student needs and implement research-based interventions tailored to diverse learning profiles. The new LCE program is specifically structured for students who require individualized academic and social skill instruction and is not designed for those with severe emotional, behavioral, or health needs.
Program Highlights
Specialized Support and Integration: Students in the LCE program receive personalized instruction from highly trained special educators and assistant teachers. They also participate in selected activities in a homeroom classroom, specialist classes, and optional after-school activities alongside their peers, promoting a well-rounded, inclusive learning experience.
Inclusive Education Philosophy: The LCE program upholds TAISM’s commitment to inclusivity by creating a school community that values diversity and mirrors the broader society students live in, grow up in, and will eventually work in. An inclusive school environment enables all students to be active contributors, and fosters enhanced physical and mental well-being, self-esteem, and independence.
Collaborative Learning Environment: General education teachers, special education teachers, and other professionals work in close collaboration to ensure that each student receives a high-quality education that meets their individualized needs.
The Life-Centered Education program’s curriculum focuses on academics, social skills, and essential life skills that empower students to succeed in their daily lives. Each student’s individual goals are outlined in an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). These goals are integrated into daily LCE classes, ensuring consistent, focused support for each learner.
Starting in August 2025, the LCE program will initially accommodate four lower elementary students, establishing a strong foundation for inclusive education within the TAISM community.
