Recently, art students from all over Asia were invited to attend SAISA Art, a South Asian International Schools Association art conference in Kathmandu, Nepal. Students from different skill levels, such as Art 2, Advanced Art and AP Art, were selected to attend. This was an amazing opportunity to step out of our comfort zones and connect with others who share our passion for art. Beyond the workshops, we also had the chance to interact with Nepalese people while exploring the colorful temples, markets, and buildings in Kathmandu.
Throughout the conference, we attended a variety of workshops, including wood carving, embroidery, photography/cyanotype and painting. We learned new techniques and collaborated with artists we might never have met otherwise. This trip was especially inspiring because we were surrounded by talented artists—students, teachers and even well-known creatives from Nepal. A highlight was displaying our artwork at the Museum of Nepali Art (MoNA) at the Kathmandu Guest House, where we also learned about traditional Tibetan Thangka painting. Seeing the incredible work from other workshops left us amazed by the diversity of artistic expression.
TAISM had a great group representing the school this year. We showed our dedication by approaching every moment with enthusiasm and by embracing the opportunity to meet new people. A highlight of the trip was getting to know each other better, and we will always cherish the memories we created together.
