Age Criteria and Grade Equivalency

Schools around the world use different numbering conventions and curriculums, so when transferring to TAISM, we will make every effort to ensure your child is placed in the appropriate classes for their academic and social development.

At TAISM the correct grade placement for international student applicants is decided by the Admissions Committee in consultation with the Principal.  It is the intention of the school to always place students in the grade most appropriate for their academic and social development. When making a grade placement decision the following will be taken into account:

  1. Age of student

  2. Previous schooling to date and student’s previous school reports

  3. Assessment test results and interview (if applicable)

Schools around the world use different numbering conventions as well as follow different curriculums. It is common to find schools following the US and other North-American curriculum using a 12 grade numbering format, and British schools and those following the National Curriculum for England and Wales using a 13 year numbering format. In addition, there are other numbering conventions in different countries.
In Muscat there are international community schools offering different curriculums and following different numbering conventions. The table below indicates TAISM’s numbering convention and how it equates to other systems. TAISM follows the 12 grade system. The student’s age as of 31st of October is the cut-off date for admissions grade placement.

Transferring to TAISM was such an easy process. The admissions team kept things simple, and when our daughter arrived, we knew she would thrive here.
