TAISM Celebrates the Graduating Class of 2016

On Thursday, May 26, forty Grade 12 students from The American International School of Muscat (TAISM), representing 23 nations, graduated in the presence of H.E Ambassador Marc J Sievers, U.S. Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman.  Over 500 parents, faculty, and students attended the event which was held in the school’s Bosch Center for the Performing Arts.

The 40 graduates have been accepted and plan to enroll in universities around the world including the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Australia, Asia, the GCC and Oman.

Mr. Keith Boniface, High School Principal, presented two special awards to the graduates on the morning of the commencement exercises. The awards for Academic Excellence were given to seniors Mohamed Abdelhamid , Luis Alejandro Camero, and Ali Al Farsi who ended their academic record with Highest Honors (GPA greater than 4.0). The Outstanding Senior Award, selected by faculty, went to a student who best embodied the mission of the school. This year the award went to Terence Teo.  Mr. Teo and  Mr.  Abdelhamid spoke at the ceremony. Shaikha Al Wahaibi, a graduating senior, was selected by the faculty to be the Master of Ceremony for the event.

Mr. Fawzi Mushantaf, Chairperson of TAISM’s Board of Directors, and Mr. Kevin Schafer, TAISM Director, awarded the diplomas to the graduates. The students were lauded for their outstanding achievements and support towards the school as well as Oman’s community.

The TAISM Concert Band, under the leadership of Band Director Dr. Michael Buck, performed the prelude and processional music, including Edward Elgar’s popular “Pomp and Circumstance.”  In honor of the graduating seniors, the TAISM High School Choir, directed by Mrs. Melanie Brink, performed the school’s choral anthem, “Like an Eagle.”

Following the Graduation Ceremony, all attendees were invited to a reception in the Bosch Center.

Earlier that day, TAISM held an Awards Ceremony for the High School students who were named as the most outstanding in the following subject areas:

TAISM has now completed 18 years of educational service to the American and international communities in the Sultanate of Oman.  The school currently enrolls 800 students from Early Childhood through Grade 12, representing 65 nationalities.
