TAISM Students Participate at SAISA

May 02, 2016

Season three of TAISM sports culminated with an exciting SAISA (South Asia Inter School Association) tournaments on April 21-23, 2016.  The weekend was filled with excitement as the student athletes performed to their best ability and represented TAISM with class, integrity and grit.  We are very proud of all our student athletes and coaches for a wonderful season and tournament.  Here is a recap of each sport from the coaches.

MS/HS Track and Field- Chennai, India

The TAISM Track and Field Team had an excellent showing at SAISA in Chennai. There were many personal records set with many ribbons and medals awarded. The boys groups of 10-12 and 15-19 placed third in their age division. The team placed sixth and improved their previous year’s team score by more than 70 points. The results were representative of a great season of hard work and dedication.

HS Girls Soccer - Mumbai, India

The TAISM Lady Eagles had their most successful SAISA Soccer Tournament to date by making it to the Championship match for the first time in the school’s history. The Eagles started strong with a powerful performance against KAS,Karachi, winning 5-0. Emma scored two goals, while Georgia, Serena, and Jihan all added one each. Our second match was against Lincoln School, Nepal. Our Eagles came out on top 4-1 with two goals from Debbie and a goal each from Serena and Jihan. Our third match was against the home school ASB, Bombay. Needing only a tie to secure the number one spot, we fell behind 1-0 early before battling back to get the tie with an amazing long range goal from Debbie. Our number one seed meant we faced AISC, Chennai, in the semifinal. The final score was 5-3, and although Debbie scored all 5 goals in the match, it was another great team effort.

In the final, we had a rematch against Bombay. Despite having only 12 players for every game (the other teams had 16), TAISM battled in their first ever SAISA Championship match. Although the girls came up just short in a 1-2 loss to Bombay, the team and their coaches were extremely proud of what they had accomplished against all odds! Way to go Lady Eagles!

HS Boys Basketball - Kathmandu, Nepal

This past weekend the Boys Basketball team traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal, for the SAISA tournament.  We completed the tournament with a 3-3 record and finished in fifth place. Although we didn’t place as well as we had hoped, the boys played some great basketball and learned a lot during the trip. As their coach, the highlight for me was watching them become a close-knit group. These boys had truly become a “team” and they were a pleasure to coach.  Along with the basketball tournament, we had time to visit the tourist sites of Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) and also visit Thamel, which is a commercial neighborhood in Kathmandu.  The trip was a great mix of highly competitive basketball with some Nepali culture mixed-in.
