Welcome to TAISM's Early Childhood Center

TAISM’s Early Childhood (EC) program is based on a developmental approach to curriculum design. We believe children learn best in an environment in which they are active participants. Our EC students spend time at TAISM involved in a variety of structured and play-based learning activities that support children’s growth and development. The program is divided into separate classes for 3 and 4 year olds. Daily timings are from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

TAISM’s Commitment to Early Childhood Education…

  • We respect the dignity and uniqueness of each child.
  • We appreciate and support the importance of family and respect cultural diversity.
  • We help each child reach his or her full potential, with attention to social, emotional, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and language development.

Early Childhood Curriculum

A developmentally appropriate curriculum provides for all areas of a child’s developmental needs: physical, emotional, social linguistic, aesthetic, and cognitive. The curriculum is guided by our Early Learning Standards and Benchmarks. The curriculum is presented through a thematic approach, including the seasons, our five senses, fairytales, nursery rhymes, transportation, pets, farms, and our community. Special activities are also designed in line with schoolwide annual events, such as Discover Oman, International Day, the Terry Fox Run, Fall Festival, Sports Day, and Book Week.

The curriculum strives to support the diversity within our school and is considered a preparatory program for students transitioning into the TAISM Elementary School.

Swimming instruction, with the swimming coach, is provided once a year. The EC classes visit the Library on a weekly basis to listen to stories and rhymes and to choose a book to take home to share with their parents. Music and art are integrated throughout daily classroom experiences. Gross motor skills are developed by daily outdoor play. The gym is available for more structured game play as needed.

Early Childhood Facilities

The program has one three-year old classroom and two four-year old classrooms. In addition, students have access to a small kitchen for weekly cooking activities. The shaded early childhood playground is equipped with climbing structures, swings, a sand box, and tricycles.

Class Size and Staffing for Early Childhood

We strive to maintain a low student to teacher ratio of 7:1. Qualified, caring staff members, experienced in implementing developmentally appropriate learning activities, are employed.

Admission Requirements for Early Childhood

To be eligible for admission, children must turn three or four years old by October 31. They are required to be toilet trained. Students entering the classroom after the end of the second trimester should have previous school experience in a similar program. Therefore, decisions regarding admissions beyond the second trimester will be on a case-by-case basis.
