High School Library
TAISM’s High School library was completed in August 2015. Located at the end of the high school corridor, the library is the stem which supports all student learning. Literacy is at the root of our HS curriculum. English, History and Science teachers encourage non required reading, and students are often in the library seeking books outside the curriculum in an effort to create lifelong readers of TAISM students.
The HS library is open for student use between 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Students use the library throughout the day independently, during classes, as well as during Independent study. Attached to the HS Commons, the library serves as a learning resource center with a variety of areas to support students with different learning and working styles. The space offers comfortable ‘cave’ zones for students wanting to work or read independently; a ‘campfire’ space with a 70” Smart TV; and a variety of ‘watering hole’ spaces for students to work and study collaboratively.
Equipped with 12 iMacs, 16 PC laptops, two touchscreen OPAC stations; digital screens displaying the collection of 1900+ OverDrive ebooks; 4700 print books; 28 magazine titles; a variety of digital databases; along with Wifi and 1:1 ipad access, students have access to a variety of print and digital tools to develop their 21st century skills.
The adjoining HS Commons offers a versatile space for the HS lunch as well as for students to come and work on projects, collaborate in large groups, or view presentations in a louder, more active study environment complete with a smart bar offering 1:1 tech help when needed. This space is equipped with a sound system and a 79” Smart TV for small and large group presentations and performances.
The TAISM library programs aim to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information who are inspired by a love of learning and literature.
