Elementary School
The Elementary School Program is organized into two levels:
The program is designed to provide students with a sound foundation for future learning, especially in the areas of literacy and mathematical skills.
Early Childhood Development Center and Kindergarten, (3-5 years of age)
The goal of the Early Childhood Program is to introduce students to
a school environment which is both dynamic and nurturing. Decisions about
teaching and learning are based on practices that are developmentally
appropriate for a given age. Early Childhood classrooms are designed for
a community of learners who work together to develop skills and explore
the world around them. Parental involvement is considered an essential
aspect of building a strong connection between home and school.
Elementary
Grades 1 and 2 (6 to 8 years of age)
Students in Grades 1 – 2 study in a self-contained classroom, with a maximum of 20 students per teacher. The classroom teacher designs and provides instruction in English/language arts, science, math, social studies and technology. Students also receive instruction from specialists in art, music, physical education, world languages, and library-media skills.
Grades 3, 4 and 5 (8 to 11 years of age)
The Elementary classes build on the foundation established in the Early Childhood grades, emphasizing higher-order skills such as analysis and critical thinking. Students are asked to become increasingly responsible for their own learning and support their schoolwork with home study routines and extended projects. Students also receive instruction from specialists in art, music, physical education, world languages and library-media skills.
