By the end of
grade 2:
a. Is aware that there is a relationship between personal
health behaviors and individual well being.
b. Reports signs of mental, emotional, social, and physical health during childhood.
c. Identifies basic body parts and simple functions of body systems.
d. Describes individual family health practices.
e. Demonstrates an awareness of physically, socially, and emotionally safe environments.
f. Identifies common health problems personally experienced by children.
g. Verbalizes health symptoms for early detection and treatment.
h. Identifies some of the ways childhood injuries and illnesses can be prevented and/or treated.
By the end of grade 5:
a. Describes relationships between personal health behaviors and individual well being.
b. Identifies indicators of mental, emotional, social, and physical health during childhood.
c. Describes the basic structure and functions of human body systems.
d. Describes how the family influences personal health.
e. Describes how physical, social, and emotional environments influence personal health.
f. Identifies common health problems of children.
g. Identifies health problems that should be detected and treated early.
h. Explains how childhood injuries and illnesses can be prevented or treated.
i. Understands the physical and emotional changes, which accompany human maturation, specifically the onset of puberty.
By the end of grade 8:
a. Explains the relationship between positive health
behaviors and the prevention of injury, illness, disease, and premature death.
b. Describe the relationship of mental, emotional, social, and physical health during adolescence.
c. Explain how the functions of our body systems can influence our health.
d. Describe how family and peers influence the health of adolescents.
e. Analyze how environment and personal health are related.
f. Describes ways to reduce risks related to adolescent health problems.
g. Explains how appropriate health care can prevent premature death and disability.
h. Describes how lifestyle, family history, and risk factors are related to the cause and prevention of disease and other health problems.
By the end of grade 12:
a. Analyzes how behavior can influence health maintenance and disease prevention.
b. Describes the relationships of mental, emotional, social, and physical health throughout adulthood.
c. Explains the impact of personal health behaviors on the functioning of body systems.
