By the end
of grade 5:
a. Recognize the differences between materials, techniques and processes.
b. Describe how different materials, techniques, and processes are suitable
for different purposes.
c. Use different media, techniques, and processes to communicate ideas, experiences
and stories.
d. Use art materials and tools in a safe and responsible manner.
By the end
of grade 8:
a. Understand the characteristics and qualities of different media, applications
and techniques.
b. Identify and effectively apply a variety of media and techniques.
c. Choose and apply media and techniques that best suits the subject, theme
or idea being represented and be able to reflect upon the effectiveness of their
choice
By the completion
of TAISM’s High School Studio Art Program ( Art I, Art II and Advanced
Art):
a. Apply a breadth of media, techniques and processes with skill and confidence
so that the desired intentions of their works are achieved.
b. Conceive and create works that demonstrate an effective relationship between
the media, technique and process used and the idea, theme, or concept.
c. Identify and solve problems that arise within the process and application
of a variety of media.
d. Begin to experiment and use media, techniques and processes in unconventional
applications

By the end
of grade 5:
a. Recognize the differences among visual characteristics and purposes of art
in order to convey ideas.
b. Describe how different forms of expression and organizational principles
cause different responses.
c. Use visual structures and functions of art to communicate ideas.
By the end of grade 8:
a. Identify the specific qualities of organic and inorganic forms and shapes
within their own works and reflect upon their functions.
b. Employ a variety of these forms and structures to create effective and balanced
compositions.
c. Communicate concepts, thoughts, emotions and ideas through the use of forms
and structures.
By the completion of TAISM’s
High School Studio Art Program ( Art I, Art II and Advanced Art):
a. Demonstrate conceptual and applied understanding that form follows function.
b. Form and defend judgments about the forms and structures used in their works.
c. Use design principles to solve problems and communicate purpose.
d. Demonstrate competence in creating effective relationships between sound
structural composition and aesthetics.

By the end

a. Design, plan and organize works of art.
b. Select and use subject matter, symbols and ideas to communicate meaning.

the end of grade 8:
a. Plan and organize a variety of subject material to produce the most effective
composition.
b. Integrate subjects, forms, media and processes to convey concepts, emotion,
and values.
c. Begin to use symbolism to convey intended meaning in their works.
By the completion
of TAISM’s High School Studio Art Program ( Art I, Art II and Advanced
Art):
a. Describe the origins of specific images symbols and ideas, and justify their
value and significance in art.
b. Incorporate symbolism and imagery in their own work and relate these images
to history and culture.
c. Evaluate and defend the validity of their subject matter, the works of others,
and the sources used to create them.
d. Generate their own ideas, themes and subject material.

a. Know that the visual arts have both, a history and specific relationships
to various cultures.
b. Identify specific works of art as belonging to particular cultures, times
and places.
c. Demonstrate how history, culture and the visual arts can influence each other
in making and studying works of art.

a. a. Know and compare artists from various eras and cultures.
b. Describe the characteristic style of artists from various eras and cultures.
By the completion

a. Analyze and describe how experience, culture and trends influenced various
artists.
b. Compare and contrast various artists’ styles, characteristics and the
purpose of their works.
c. Identify and analyze common characteristics, trends, styles and themes within
art across time and cultures.
