Parent - School Communication

Parent Volunteer Coordinator

All TAISM Association members are encouraged to participate in the life of the School. The Parent Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting parents to assist with classroom activities, field days, special programs, class parties, and fundraisers.

Parent Forums and Coffees

Parent Forums are scheduled throughout the year based on programs in the Elementary, Middle and High Schools. The Elementary and Middle/High School Principals will coordinate the forums and coffees.

Open House

Elementary and Secondary Open Houses are scheduled in September. Parents are given the opportunity to meet their child's teacher(s) and find out more about your child's academic program, classroom routines and teacher expectations.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher contact is vital to the success of TAISM students. Formal parent-teacher conferences are arranged for all parents at the end of the first and third quarters.

Parents may also request additional conferences at any time during the year. It is best to schedule an appointment by contacting the teacher through the office.

Conference formats available to parents, teachers and students:

  • Telephone conference to clarify communications and quickly discuss child's current status.

  • Routine reporting conference to discuss student's progress over a longer period of time

  • Problem-solving conference to address a specific problem or serious concern.

Newsletters

School newsletters, known as The Eagle, will be sent home with your child every third week. Because they have proven to be more reliable, the school's policy is to send home general announcements with the youngest child in each family. Newsletters

Addressing Concerns

Whenever you have a concern or problem, please let us know so we can discuss it and attempt to come up with a workable solution.

First Step: You should always contact the teacher first. The majority of concerns can be immediately addressed and resolved through direct contact with the teacher.

Second Step: If you still have a concern then you should talk to the Principal. This should be done only after direct contact with the teacher.

Third Step: The final step for resolution of a concern is to talk to the Director.

Contact with the School Board

The school board is responsible for the school's governance, not the day-to-day operation of the school. The Board must also act only as collective body. Therefore, the school board will only entertain parental concerns in the following circumstances:

  • After the concern has been brought to the attention of the Principal and Director.

  • When the concern has been presented to the School Board Chairman in writing and signed, at least one week prior to the regular board meeting.
